Overview

An internship at The Orchard offers students a unique hands-on experience in the exciting and fast-growing field of media distribution and intellectual property management. We are currently seeking interns willing to dedicate 16-30 hours per week any time during the semester. Our internships are unpaid. We will complete all necessary documents for applicants looking to earn internship credit through the school in which they are currently enrolled. Our interns have subsequently landed gigs at Cowan, Debaets, Abrahams & Sheppard LLP, eMusic, United States Copyright Office, Sony Music Entertainment, and here at The Orchard.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare legal correspondence such as cease and desist letters and responses to subpoenas.
  • Review and draft various legal agreements and amendments, including master use and synchronization licenses, and YouTube channel administration amendments.
  • Create deal memos including summaries of contractual licensing terms and restrictions.
  • Conduct legal and factual research and analysis on matters concerning Orchard, its affiliates, its licensees and its label clients.
  • Assist and collaborate with the legal team on general matters.

Qualifications

  • Must be enrolled in a Juris Doctor program at an accredited law school with a GPA of 3.0 or above (preferred 2L ranking or higher).
  • Must possess excellent legal writing, research, computer literacy, and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be well organized, detail-oriented, enthusiastic and able to flourish in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must be a self-starter and possess a strong work ethic.
  • Should have a demonstrated interest in entertainment and intellectual property law through academic involvement beyond coursework (e.g., academic organizations, Moot Court, law review, etc.) or prior experience in related field.
